Reviews were there. Then they weren’t β or the count dropped, or customers say they can’t see what you see. The internet will offer conspiracy theories before breakfast. Most of the time the cause is duller.
I’m not here to frighten you into a reputation-management retainer. I’m here to separate “filter” from “profile on fire.”
Confirm what “stopped showing” means
Be precise:
- Star rating vanished for everyone
- Count dropped by a chunk overnight
- Specific reviews missing
- You see them logged in; strangers don’t
- Reviews tab looks empty but Maps still shows a rating
Each points somewhere slightly different. Screenshot what you see and what a friend sees. Arguments without screenshots go in circles.

This one feels personal. An ex-manager, a previous SEO firm, a landlord, a random claim β and suddenly you can’t edit the listing that represents your livelihood.
Stay boring. Boring wins ownership disputes more often than rage.
First: is it ownership, suspension, or a duplicate?
Wrong label, wrong process.

Suspended means Google has disabled the profile for policy reasons. It does not mean your company stopped existing. It does mean Maps and local results that depended on that profile will look broken until Google says otherwise.
I’m going to stay inside what I can honestly help with. I cannot “unsuspend” you with a secret form. Anyone selling guaranteed reinstatement is selling hope.
Confirm it’s actually a suspension
In the Business Profile manager you should see suspension language, not just “we can’t find you on Maps.” If the status is active and customers still can’t see you, you’re in not showing or disappeared checklist territory β different problems.

Yesterday customers could find you. Today the listing feels gone. That spike of adrenaline is rational. What isn’t rational is rewriting your entire website at midnight before you’ve checked five boring things.
Work this list in order. Stop when you find the actual problem.
1. Are you looking with owner-eyes?
Sign out. Try another phone. Ask a friend in the same town to search the exact business name.
Owner accounts and staff phones lie kindly. They remember you. Google sometimes shows you your own profile in ways strangers don’t see β or the reverse happens after an edit and you panic first.

The graph is a classic: impressions climbing, clicks soft or falling, CTR looking like it’s fallen off a chair. People screenshot it and write eulogies for organic traffic.
Sometimes the eulogy is earned. Sometimes you’re misreading a report that was never designed to be a full story.
This page is about reading the pattern. Causes and fixes sit in why am I getting impressions but no clicks on Google?. Different jobs on purpose β I don’t want both articles repeating the same skeleton.

Search Console shows impressions. Clicks look like a rounding error. The first emotional response is “Google broke us.” Sometimes that’s directionally true. Often it’s lazier than that: you’re being shown for queries you were never going to win the click on.
I care about this pattern because it’s honest. It shows up in GSC even when the homepage vanity metrics look fine.
What an impression actually is
An impression means your result was shown (with Google’s usual caveats about how they count). It does not mean a human carefully considered you and said no. It might mean you flashed past in position 12 on a phone. It might mean you sat under an AI summary that already answered the question.

Maps is where a lot of real money moves for local businesses. It’s also where owners lose an afternoon staring at a blue pin that refuses to appear for anyone else.
I’m going to be blunt: if your listing isn’t right, no amount of blog posts about “AI search” will save the Saturday walk-in trade. Fix Maps first when Maps is the wound.
Maps vs Search vs the Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile feeds Maps and the local results on Google Search. One profile, several surfaces.

You’ve got a Google Business Profile. You can open it when you’re logged in. Customers still swear you don’t exist. That combination drives people slightly mad, and for good reason β it feels like Google is gaslighting you.
Usually it isn’t personal. It’s one of a short list of states that look identical from the outside.
Search vs Maps vs “when I’m logged in”
Your profile can behave differently depending on:

If you only do one technical check this month, make it this one. Everything else β content plans, schema debates, “why isn’t AI recommending us” β sits on top of a blunt question: has Google actually stored your pages?
I’m going to keep this short and slightly annoying, because the internet loves to turn a two-minute check into a twelve-step course.
The site: search (two minutes)
- Open Google in a normal browser window.
- Type
site:yourdomain.co.uk β swap in your real domain, no https://, no trailing junk. - Look at what comes back.
Useful result: your homepage and a handful of real pages. Good enough signal that you’re not invisible.

Most owners who tell me “we’re not on Google” are describing four different problems with one sentence. That’s why the advice you get online feels useless. Half of it assumes your website isn’t indexed. The other half assumes you need a six-month content plan. Quite often it’s neither.
Here’s the awkward bit: the fix that matches your situation is usually boring. Verification. A duplicate listing. A Maps category. A Search Console graph that looks scary until you realise what it’s measuring. The sexy “AI visibility strategy” conversation can wait until the basics aren’t on fire.

Most people pick an AI model the way they pick a search engine: whichever one they tried first. What almost nobody does Γ’β¬β and what could genuinely transform how effectively you use AI Γ’β¬β is pick the right model for the right task.
Because here’s the thing that’s becoming increasingly obvious to anyone who works across multiple models daily: they don’t all think the same way. Not just in terms of accuracy, but in terms of temperament. Disposition. Personality, if you’re comfortable using that word for software.
