Google Business Profile not showing up in search

πŸ“… August 21, 2026 | ✍️ Don Curtin

You’ve got a Google Business Profile. You can open it when you’re logged in. Customers still swear you don’t exist. That combination drives people slightly mad, and for good reason β€” it feels like Google is gaslighting you.

Usually it isn’t personal. It’s one of a short list of states that look identical from the outside.

Search vs Maps vs “when I’m logged in”

Your profile can behave differently depending on:

So the first test is rude and necessary: ask someone who does not work for you to search your exact business name on their phone. If they find you and you don’t when you’re logged in as owner… you’ve been debugging the wrong view.

If strangers can’t find you by name either, keep going.

Suspension vs “not showing” vs slow new listing

These get mashed together in Facebook groups. Separate them.

Suspended β€” Google has taken the profile down for policy reasons. You’ll usually see that status in the Business Profile manager. That’s a different article: Google Business Profile suspended β€” what to do.

Filtered or suppressed in some views β€” the profile exists, but it isn’t winning the local pack for category searches, or it only appears for branded searches. Annoying. Not the same as deleted.

New listing lag β€” a freshly created or heavily edited profile can take time to settle. Not glamorous. Waiting is sometimes the correct move after you’ve confirmed the details are right.

Duplicate / wrong profile β€” Google is showing an old address, a franchise twin, or a listing you no longer control. See listing disappeared and someone else claimed my profile.

What I’d check before I touch “SEO”

In order, and yes the order matters:

  1. Profile status inside the manager (active, suspended, verification pending).
  2. Name, address, phone, website β€” consistent with the real world and the website footer.
  3. Categories β€” primary category should be the thing you actually are, not the aspirational upsell category.
  4. Service area vs storefront β€” service-area businesses hide the address on purpose; that changes how Maps presents you. People set this wrong constantly.
  5. Whether Maps shows you for the brand name even if the pack ignores you for competitive terms.

If Maps brand search works and category search doesn’t, you do not have a “not showing up” emergency. You have a competitiveness problem. Different medicine.

The overrated advice I ignore

Rewriting your entire website copy will not resurrect a suspended profile. Posting three times a day to the profile will not fix a verification stall. Paying for a tool that “boosts GBP” before you’ve confirmed status is how you buy charts instead of progress.

Also: stuffing keywords into the business name. Google has been clearing that nonsense for years. It can get you punished. Don’t.

When Search and Maps disagree

Sometimes the website ranks fine and the map pack ignores you. Sometimes it’s the reverse. Treat them as linked but not identical β€” which is why the parent guide is why doesn’t my business show up on Google? and the Maps-specific sibling is why doesn’t my business show up on Google Maps?.

Want a second pair of eyes?

If the manager looks “fine” and customers still can’t find you, send a free visibility check request. Include the business name exactly as it appears on the profile. Written reply, no obligatory call.
